Summer 2014 is promising to be another busy and successful year for the Darlene Aikens Memorial Summer Camp Program. Since 1980, Family and Children’s Services of Renfrew County has been providing less privileged children in the area with the opportunity to participate in an organized summer camping experience. Last summer, with the help of the Coordinated Access Committee, and many generous local businesses, organizations, and individuals the program was able to send 211 children to camp! This summer we are hoping to match or exceed that number.
The Summer Camp Program ensures that children in our community are given the opportunity to enjoy the benefits of attending a summer camp. Without such a program many of the children we send would not be able to experience the social and developmental benefits attending summer camp can bring. Summer camp can make an enormous difference in a child’s life, it offers the chance to learn new skills, meet new people, create great memories and much more.
