Signs of Safety: A New Approach to Our Services Casework

December 28, 2017

Family & Children Services of Renfrew County has recently adopted the Signs of Safety – a participative and strengths-based approach to our services casework. Recognized and implemented internationally, it was created in Western Australia by Andrew Turnell and Steve Edwards.

Signs of Safety seeks to create a more family engaged practice. It strives to leave those in the service of Family & Children’s Services of Renfrew County feel more empowered and informed by forming meaningful working relationships that are valued and purposeful. It promotes critical thinking – fostering a stance of inquiry. And lastly, it focuses on achieving grand aspirations in everyday practice.

The goal of this new adoption is to support access to service and support for families in Renfrew County. Staff are currently participating in learning modules to increase their knowledge of Signs of Safety and put it into practice.
