Overview of Volunteer Driving Program for Family & Children’s Services
(Currently we do not require more Volunteer Drivers. Thank you.)
Family & Children’s Services of Renfrew County is the county’s Children’s Aid Society. The Agency also is responsible for Infant Development Programs, Developmental Services Programs for both children and adults, behaviour and speech programs, KUMON tutorial services, Family Visitation and Exchange Services, and is the lead for the Ontario Early Years programs in the County.
At present, our Volunteer program supports client drives/transportation for child welfare. In most cases the children are in care of this Agency, however, in some circumstances it may be approved to transport other child welfare clients.
Our volunteer drivers transport children in care to have access with their families, to attend medical and educational appointments and to attend events that they may not have been able to otherwise. We look for individuals who are reliable, punctual, enjoy spending time with children and possess a good driving record.
All volunteers complete an application and personal information form. We also require a criminal reference check, a child protection record check and three references. For volunteer driving, we require a recent driver’s abstract, a copy of insurance ensuring $1,000,000 coverage, a valid driver’s licence and a reliable vehicle. The application process includes a personal interview.
